Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive during booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your obligations related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Vehicle Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Hedge End, you must be at least 21 years old. Age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, and additional fees may apply for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. Valid payment details, including a security deposit, must also be provided. Additional criteria may be specified in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Hedge End office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All charges are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment services.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a comprehensive inspection is required to identify and report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and charges may apply accordingly. The vehicle should also be returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will be incurred if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be held responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during the rental, along with an applicable administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Details
- Basic third-party insurance is included with every rental in Hedge End. For comprehensive details regarding coverage and excess amounts, please refer to your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to further limit your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional insurance applies. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations

Prohibited Activities
Prohibited uses of rental vehicles
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, off-roading, or engaging in other risky behaviors. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Operating the vehicle under the influence of substances is strictly forbidden. Usage beyond the vehicle's intended purpose, exceeding weight or passenger limits, and driving outside the designated geographical area without prior approval is also prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Hedge End will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
